Seattle’s Metropolitan Democratic Club held its endorsement meeting yesterday and voted to endorse both Dow Constantine and Larry Phillips for King County executive.
A motion to endorse both Joe Mallahan and Mike McGinn for mayor of Seattle was tabled and will be considered at the organization’s next board meeting July 8.
Other endorsements included Bob Ferguson and Julia Patterson for King County Council; Pete Holmes for Seattle city attorney; David Bloom, Richard Conlin, Nick Licata and David Miller for Seattle City Council; Rob Holland and Max Vekich for Port of Seattle Commission; Mary Bass, Michael DeBell and Betty Patu for Seattle School Board; and Referendum 1, which would impose a 20-cent fee on disposable shopping bags.
The meeting was attended by about 50 MDC members and guests, including Constantine and Phillips and a dozen other candidates for the positions on the ballot.
MDC was established in the 1950s as a venue for progressive Democrats to push a reform agenda for the Democratic Party establishment. The organization is currently undergoing a renaissance and growing rapidly. More information can be found on its Web site, metrodems.org.
