It is a clear reality that Zenawi is a genocider that the world has failed to speak against!
It amazes me to see Zenawi glamorized as a leader that can defend the rights of close to billion citizens of Africa's right the just completed negotiation in Copenhagen. It is all farce. I don't see a guy who can't respect the very basic and fundamental rights of his own citizens caring much less about the environment. It is all farce and it is all regrettable. It is a well documented reality that Zenawi has committed genocide against the Anuaks, now against Ethiopians in Ogaden region. He suppresses dissent and a known enemy of the press. It is only bizarre to me that he is rubbing shoulder with democratically elected leaders at such a high profile meeting in Copenhagen. SG |

Butcher representing Africa with connivance of the west.

Have you asked why a man with the the worst atrocities in the whole of Africa is selected by the same people to represent the continent in the first place? http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/08/world/08ethiopia.html?_r=2 http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/1999/may/18/ethiopia http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1184614595?b Illegal invasion of Somalia with UN and US complicity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VJka6q16Os Somalia Crisis worse than Darfur, says UN http://tinyurl.com/cern3e Ethiopia’s ‘own Darfur’ as villagers flee government-backed violence http://tinyurl.com/ysmvtc Ethiopia: Army Commits Executions, Torture, and Rape in Ogaden Donors Should Act to Stop Crimes Against Humanity http://tinyurl.com/cg4ygx He is reputed to have more than $1.2 billion in Swiss account from his corrupt business interest while his country is starving.. Ethiopian government just ordered 10, 787 Dreamliner jets and 12, A350 Airbuses worth $4.5billion while his country is bean threatened by epic famine . The west is responsible for calamities in Africa
First African leaders bear no duty toward the people they lead as most are corrupt . Zenawi's regime and dozens others have taken power and clinched to itr through murdering and jailing their own people. Obviously, forces of harrassment and intimidation of Africans are financed and equipped by our own western powers including the White House. The west is notoriously known for playing double standard role when it comes to human rights in Africa. They really dont care as long as the abuser is one who recognizes their interest and maintains sphere of influence intact. That has been proven, historically, time and time again from actions of Blair and Gordon Brown on Ethiopia. One cannot fail to turn historical pages on what the British had done on the unity and territorial integrity of individual African states by creating artificial tribal regions susceptible of eternal enemity for ease of their colonial rule. The recurring cross border problems amongst nations is by and large the make of the British colonial powers which is still manifested in many ways . Incidentally, the Copenhagen climate conference ended up in turmoil from the sinister move of the west. Their divide and conquer policy materialized as Zenawi was the mole within the African delegation. The Brown,Obama , Sarcozy trio well knew in advance that they can make a deal by bribing Zenawi who really needs the west's diplomatic support for his survival from genocidal charges brought against him. Secondly, he is planning to run a fake election in 6 months time and needs , as usual, recognition of his power by the west as secured fairly and freely. His dream of legalizing his illegal power, by all means, to guarantee continuity of embezzlement of the country's resources is shared by "the trio" who are accountable for the suffering of Ethiopians in particular and Africans in general. It is high time for the west refrain from supporting corrupt leaders in Africa. History is repeating itself , Obama is not upto his compaign rhetoric nor his speech in Ghana. Africans have lost hope in him as he has indeed continued with the archaic policy of his predecessot towards Africa. The same old foreign policy which neglects Africans thirst for democracy, rule of law and human rights. |

While every African agrees Zenawi betrayed Africa do not distort the calls of genocide bu tying them to Zenawis Ogaden problems. It is the west that has committed genocide against Africa. Zenawi is only the equivalent of a jewish ghetto police man standing guard while the Nazis murder Africans. Obama and Europe have doomed Africa to disaster http://muigwithania.com/2009/12/18/copenhagen-obamas-dirty-t |

demonizing African leaders is wrong!
| It has become good Latin calling all African leaders corrupt dictators amongst the irresponsible crowd that demonstrate at meetings like the one in Copenhagen. Africa is no different than the rest of the world. Some leaders are good and some are bad, but calling Prime Minister a criminal is going too far and intended to satisfy the same old colonialists and slave traders, whose errand such people are carrying out. Go find fools to believe in your lies. Sensible Africans have elected Meles Zenawi because they believe he is the best statesman to represent the interests of Africa. Period! | |

Meles is the best hope for Africa
It is amazing hwo no is willing to talk about how PM Meles saved the conference from being a total loss. Everyone was ready to wall out with absloutly nothing accomplished from the meeting until his proposal: 1) Securing a seat for African nations in any future organization that would over see Carbon emission (this is equal to having a seat in Secuity Council.) This would gurantee African nations will have equal voice 2) A global funding for developing nations that would kick in starting in 2010. If African nations would have walked out no one would know when the next global meeting will be held extending the status quo of do nothing. 3) A starting point for lowering the temprature to 2C and bringing US closer to EU and Japan. If these huge sticking points were not resolved the Copenhagen conference would have been a total wast of time. Thanks to PM Melese he saved the conference and gave hope to the next meeting. Africa wouldn't have gained anything by walking out execpt the more carbon! |

| One of the worst leader Africa ever has is undoubtedly Melse Zenawi. It seems that this man doesn't have any concourse for human life to hung to power. The most bazaar thing is how this Africans who select him to represent Africa could not find a little better dictator than him, shows how Africa is in deep problem. He land locked the country of 80 million, soled millions of fertile land, diverted millions of dollar to his account in swiss bank to become 11th richest state man in the world and now he is leading african nations. If this character is all Africa can offer then we all are doomed. | |

Meles is the right person to represent Africa
Who ever what ever they said one thing is true PM Meles is the right person to represent Africa. His leadership and negotition skill lead him to be deligated by African. I do belive that he is tring to change the image of Ethiopia when it comes to his country. Ethiopia never has a leader who work day and night to make a difference for the country. I don't know why some people are spitting thier mind just thinking only one line. Come on pople let be together and support his aim that is seeing the developed Ethiopia. Stop preaching bla bla hater any time we get a place. |

Leave Meles alone!
| Meles is the best hope for Africa but not genocider. This is a simple blackmailing by Somalia and Al-shibab groups. Everybody was too shy to push the button in Copenhagen but not the calculative Mr. Meles. | |

Why Africa is betrayed,
I went through all of your comments about the despot including those whom life and existance is tied with the existance of the bucher of Ethiopians.I am with most of the opposition against the tyrant.I would like to remind all of us who are to the contrary that if we are not fragmented Meles or the Western World would have not been un issue at all.All of them are exploiting our weekness that was created by them to serve their puposes.Let us not forget that Meles is ready to rigg the vote of our people again in 2010.To keep the up coming roar of the Westen World at the time of the election to sell Africa to EU is the best bribe he can deliver befor the election. So please wherever we are inspite of where we belong let us work together to give our people the chance to to hire and fire their leaders. Thanks. THanks a lot. |

Give us break. This is Global issue not dirty domstic political calculation
Regardles of the political progress in Ethiopia Meles has shown excellent leadership skill when he negotiated with western contries regarding the ETS. We need to address the fundamental policy princpels before we critisize the process and the ouctome. Meles is third world leader who gain the respect and recognition of the west. Let me tell you clearly what would the African leader if the west ignor the plea and go a head with their proposal? Who do you think control WTO and UN Security council. Here we go again what garantee do we have about our own cries? Give us break |

Self resilience
| As we all know the west is looking for its interest. The minute they see weakness in the part of Melse, they will abandon him with out looking back and pick whoever seems to gain the upper hand. The west doesn't have conscious but self interest, yes, even Obama. | |

Why the silence?
Extra-judicial killings, rape, disappearances, destruction of livelihood and the displacement of thousands of Ogaden people are the daily norm in ETHIOPIA and a common knowledge. One can read the Human Rights Watch’s report titled Collective Punishment of war crimes and crimes against humanity to see the full picture. http://www.hrw.org/en/reports/2008/06/11/collective-punishme What I don’t understand is why we are silent about it? |

One of the conmments accuses the other being of a tigryan.I can tell you the same person who wrote that article ,you must have come from the ethnic segement of a country who has been reaping all the benefits of the country for many centuries but out power since the arrival of meles. let me tell you I am not a tigryan or supporters of woyane but as an honest observer what happened in the last 20 years in ethiopia ,meles and his party has brought so many positive changes that never happened in more than several hunderand of years. it doesn't take an elite from harvard to see all good things that happened in ethiopia. All the roads, bridges, hydroelectric dam, schools, higher education ,hospitals and boom of the private sector.many international economist including the economist has attested to the fact that ethiopia is having a two digit growth in the past 5 or 6 years. The economist has labeled ethiopia to be the 4th fast growing economy in the 2010. despite all this acheivments some have blinded their eyes delibertely to focus on the shortcomings of the goverment.every country and goverment has a short comings .don't forget about abou gharib prison abuse scandal ,and the many civilians that were killed with the americal strikes all over the world.ethiopia is not an exception.the goverment has responsibilities to punish those who are trying the distrub the normal rhythm of daily living in the coutry wheather post election or in ogaden in the name separtist movement. all the negative comments here are written by big losers of the derg and feudal proactivists. let me finish by saying that never ever will ethiopia go back to those old dark days of one ethnic rule and domination. |

Genocide? what genocide?
I used to think this Seattle post is a credible media. Sorry. Is there a genocide in Ethiopia now? Has there been any in the last decade? Do not the editors know the definition of genocide? This why you never get successful with real issues like Darfur. You abuse and and misuse terms. So,U would be forced to use inflated exprcessions when real issues come up. I expect U would use the term 'Holocast' to make your point next time. What a pity. |
